A Simple Creamy Cucumber Onion Salad With Dill Dressing
There’s something about a classic creamy cucumber onion salad that just screaaaams spring and summer. It’s cool, crisp, and refreshing — the kind of side that shows up at Easter lunch, backyard dinners, potlucks, and weeknight meals when you want something simple but satisfying.
This version uses pantry-friendly dried dill and a tangy sour cream dressing that comes together in just minutes. It’s the perfect contrast to grilled meats, comfort casseroles, or anything hot off the stove.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe:
It’s seriously so quick and easy. It’s just a few ingredients give it the creamy, tangy, and lightly herby classic flavor that you want in a cucumber salad. With minimal prep, it is the perfect side to make the morning of/night before you need it. Truthfully, it tastes better that way in our opinion!
How To Make This Creamy Cucumber Salad Recipe:
- Start by thinly slicing the cucumbers and red onion. Sprinkle the cucumbers with salt and let them rest briefly to draw out the extra moisture, this helps make sure that the salad doesn’t get too watery especially if you’re making it ahead, so don’t skip this step!
- While the cucumbers rest, whisk together your sour cream, mayonnaise, vinegar, lemon juice, dried dill, honey, garlic powder, and black pepper until smooth and creamy.
- Once the cucumbers are ready, gently pat them dry, then toss them with the sliced onion and dressing until everything is well coated.
- Chill the salad for at least 30 minutes before serving so the flavors can meld and the dill can bloom.

What To Serve This Cucumber Salad Recipe With:
This creamy cucumber salad pairs beautifully with:
- Burgers, brats, or grilled chicken
- Cheeseburger casseroles or skillet meals
- BBQ favorites like ribs or pulled pork
- Sandwiches, wraps, or picnic spreads
- Comfort meals that need a fresh, cool side
It’s especially great alongside richer dishes where you want a little contrast.
How To Store:
Store leftover cucumber and onion salad in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Keep in mind that cucumbers naturally release moisture over time, so the salad may loosen slightly as it sits. Give it a gentle stir before serving, and if needed, add a small spoonful of sour cream to freshen it up.
