Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole (Biscuits & Gravy Style)

A cozy, kid-friendly breakfast casserole made with creamy sausage gravy, crispy tater tots, and melty cheese. No eggs required!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 32 oz bag frozen tater tots
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 °F and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  • In a skillet, cook sausage until browned. Add butter and melt. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Slowly whisk in milk and cook until thickened. Stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Pour the sausage gravy mixture into the baking dish. Sprinkle one cup of cheese over the top.
  • Arrange the frozen tater tots evenly over the casserole. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
  • Broil for 2-3 minutes for extra crispy tots. Let the casserole rest 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use mild sausage for a more kid-friendly flavor.
  • Adjust pepper to taste
  • Add a splash of milk if gravy thickens too much.
